Slate

Slate roofs have an old world appeal with long lasting durability. Natural slate is mined from the ground and cut into shingles. Natural slates are also heavy and expensive, which is why we recommend  most homeowners choose a modern slate material. Modern slates are made from a range of materials including composites, porcelain, metal, and synthetic polymer.  Companies like Paragon Roof Systems, Ironstone, Isaiah Industries, and F-Wave offer the best performance, looks, and cost, all while retaining an old-world appeal.

COMPOSITE SLATE

Composite Slate is the best choice for the majority of homeowners and the future for slate style roofing. Paragon and Brava are our preferred manufacturers, and we can't recommend them enough. They offer a great look for a reasonable cost, with no additional substructure reinforcements needed.

PORCELAIN SLATE

Ironstone porcelain are a modern take using ancient techniques. They are fired at 2600F and virtually impervious to water, meaning they are resistant to mold, mildew, and freeze-thaw damage. They are also  available in Class 4 hail rated, and are fade-proof for life.

METAL SLATE

Metal Slate roofs are typically known for their longevity and efficiency. They are often made from recycled metals making them not only beautiful, but environmentally friendly. Some homeowners dislike the idea of the sound of rain on a metal roof during a thunderstorm, we consider it a plus.

SYNTHETIC POLYMER
SLATE

F-Wave's premium synthetic slate style roof is far superior to more traditional shingle materials. The commercial-grade polymer makes the shingles lighter, stronger, and easier to maintain. They have the ability to hold up to extreme wind and are Class 4 hail rated.

Benefits of
Composite Slate

We suggest composite roofing tiles for the list of benefits they provide. Here is a short list but we'd love to discuss them more if you have any questions or would like to get your hands on a sample.

  • Available in a vast amounts of colors, including custom made color combinations

  • Extremely hail resistant- Class 4 Impact ratings

  • Environmentally friendly recycled composite material

  • Lightweight tiles require no substructure reinforcements to your home

Impact Rating

Thousands of homeowners lose their roofs to wind and hail damage each year, but some areas are more affected by damaging storms than others. Homes in areas that experience stronger, damaging storms will benefit greatly from impact resistant shingles because they offer long-term roof protection.

Impact resistant roofing materials do cost more initially, but they pay for themselves in the long run. Typically, these shingles cost 10-20% more than their non-impact counterparts. That being said, they reduce a homeowner’s maintenance costs and may even prevent premature roof replacement.
